Seeing the websites you’ve recently visited straight from Instagram is a breeze. However, you can turn off the feature.
When you want to get to a product link you hit while browsing Instagram, it can be helpful to be able to check all the websites you recently visited within the app. The link history feature on Instagram must be enabled in order to benefit from this.
How to Enable or Disable Link History on Instagram
In order to track every link you click on and visit within the app, Instagram needs authorization to do so. On the other hand, it’s likely that when using the platform, a pop-up message prompted you to activate the link history feature. Therefore, it’s worthwhile to confirm that you have it enabled already.
To see if the link history function is enabled on your iPhone or Android smartphone, use the instructions listed below in the Instagram app:
1. Open Instagram and select your profile by tapping the icon in the lower-right corner.
2. Select Your activity from the pop-up menu by tapping the three lines located in the upper-right corner.
3. After swiping down, choose Link History.
4. If you see a list of links here, the functionality is now operational. On the other hand, you can press the Allow link history option beneath the notification if you’re asked to enable it. If “No recent link history” appears in this menu, it indicates that you haven’t yet tapped on any external links within the platform.
5. Now, you may use the in-app browser on Instagram by tapping on any of the links in your history if you would prefer to disable this feature.
6. Next, select Browser settings by tapping the ellipsis (…) button located in the upper-right corner of the browser.
7. To discontinue utilising this feature, turn off Allow link history here. Select Don’t allow when prompted for confirmation.
Why You Shouldn’t Enable Instagram’s Link History
As useful as it may be, if you’re worried about your online privacy, we don’t advise turning on Facebook’s or Instagram’s link history function. This is due to the fact that Meta, the business that owns Facebook and Instagram, will utilise your browsing history to target advertisements on all of its platforms. Furthermore, not everyone will enjoy that Meta deliberately grants it permission to monitor them, given that the company is notorious for doing so.
On the plus side, you’ll see more advertising that are relevant to your interests and be able to locate links you’ve previously visited more faster if you enable Instagram’s link history function. In the end, it all comes down to what kind of Instagram experience you are looking for.
