Utilise the cellular data connection on your phone to access your PC.
Do you need to use your laptop or PC to access the internet but are unable to use public Wi-Fi? The answer is straightforward: connect your phone to your PC to access its mobile data. On your Android phone, we’ll walk you through the process.
What Is Tethering?
The process of using your phone’s mobile data connection to link your computer to your mobile device and enable online access for your PC is known as tethering. With the exception of utilising your data allotment, it is typically free.
To share your Android device’s internet connection with your laptop, tablet, or desktop computer, you have three options:
- As a wireless hotspot, use your phone.
- Use USB to connect your phone to your PC.
- Link through Bluetooth
1. Use Your Phone’s Hotspot Feature to Connect a PC to the Internet
Making your Android phone a Wi-Fi hotspot is the most practical way to share its internet. With the help of this function, you may connect your devices safely and securely with a password by having your phone establish a private network. This is how you configure it.
1. Navigate to Connections > Mobile Hotspot and Tethering after launching the Settings app.
2. Toggle the switch at the top to activate Mobile Hotspot.
3. To make changes, tap the Network name and Password.
4. Advanced configuration options include hotspot visibility, Wi-Fi band (2.4GHz or 5GHz), security type, and more.
For a long time, mobile phones have included a modem function that lets you use USB tethering to connect the device to your computer. This enables you to share your laptop or other devices’ mobile internet connection with them over a wired connection. This is how you apply it.
1. Turn on mobile data on your Android phone and use the USB cable to connect it to your computer.
2. Navigate to the Notification Panel and press the Android System alert that displays.
3. Choose the option for USB tethering.
Bluetooth is an additional method of sharing your phone’s internet with your PC. The bandwidth offered by this short-range wireless technology is adequate for data transfer between your phone and a linked device. To accomplish this, you must first pair your phone and computer:
1. On your phone, go to the Quick Settings menu and enable Bluetooth.
2. Now, to launch the Settings programme on your Windows computer, press Win + I.
3. Toggle on Bluetooth by going to Bluetooth & devices.
4. Just below, click Add device, then select Bluetooth from the list of possibilities.
5. When your phone displays, pick it and finish the pairing procedure. If you run into issues, see our instructions for connecting to Bluetooth on Windows 11 and configuring Bluetooth in Windows 10.
Since Bluetooth is primarily meant for short-range conversations and data transfers, tethering using Bluetooth typically offers the slowest internet rates when compared to other tethering options. In our tests, upload speeds fell to 0.12Mbps and download speeds only to 0.24Mbps.
USB tethering gives the best speeds and uses the least amount of battery life. Although Bluetooth tethering offers very sluggish internet rates, it is also battery-friendly. All things considered, Wi-Fi tethering is still the most popular choice because it’s easy to use and can connect several devices.
