Do you need to capture the screen of your iPhone for a quick how-to or commentary video? While screen recording FaceTime calls, we’ll go over its limits, how to use it, and provide some alternatives.
Before You Start Screen Recording on Your iPhone
You must first enable the screen recording feature in the Control Center before using it on iOS. Navigate to Settings > Control Center, then select the More Controls area by scrolling down. Then, press the symbol with a plus sign (+) by Screen Recording.
Now, in addition to the other toggles and sliders, the Screen Recording icon (a circle with a dot in the center) can be found when you open the Control Center on your iPhone.
How to Screen Record on Your iPhone
After enabling the feature, let’s see how to begin and end an iPhone screen recording.
Start Your Screen Recording
To begin recording the screen of your iPhone, launch Control Center and select the Screen Recording icon.
Before your phone begins to record, there will be a countdown of three seconds. Turn on Do Not Disturb on your iPhone at this period to stop notifications from interfering with your screen capture.
The clock in the status bar of your iPhone will turn red while it is recording.
Stop Your Screen Recording
To end the screen recording on your iPhone, select Stop by tapping the red clock shown in the status bar. As an alternative, go to the Control Center and hit the Screen Recording toggle once more.
You’ll receive a notification letting you know that the screen capture has been uploaded to your Photos app.
Keep in mind that the aforementioned methods only capture the screen and system sounds on your iPhone. To record your screen for voiceovers and record external audio at the same time, long-press the Screen Recording button, hit the Microphone symbol to activate it, and then tap Start Recording.
Can You Screen Record FaceTime Calls?
Screen recording during a FaceTime conversation on an iPhone with the sound on is currently not possible.
The built-in screen recorder on the iPhone, or any other third-party screen recording program, is only capable of capturing your screen without audio, which negates the whole point of recording a call in the first place.
It goes beyond FaceTime as well. For instance, Google Meet calls can only be recorded audibly through the online client. On your iPhone, you are unable to do the same.
If you truly must record video chats on your iPhone, Riverside is a different software that you may want to look into. Riverside claims that users don’t need to employ any workarounds to utilize the software to conduct and record audio-only video conversations.
Use Third-Party Apps to Screen Record on Your iPhone
Although iOS comes with a built-in screen recording tool that functions fairly well, you might want to consider using a third-party software that has more options. These are a few suggestions we have.
Record It! Screen Recorder
Using the screen recording tool Record it!, you may create videos with commentary and reactions. You can use the app to add a YouTube video URL or use your iPhone to play an already-existing video. Next, it will record what’s on your screen and capture your response to it with your iPhone’s front camera.
If you wish to add a background color, alter the canvas size, trim your footage, and more, the program also has a basic video editor.
V Recorder
V Recorder is another iPhone screen recorder app worth looking into. In addition to allowing you to film reaction videos, the app comes with a free teleprompter if you would rather write a screenplay ahead of time for your videos.
An automated subtitle generator and a voice changer are additional features. While using these services on a regular basis will require a subscription, you can test them out for free once within the app.
The best approach to record your iPhone’s screen is to use the built-in screen recording application. However, if you want a higher-quality video, you might want to use a Mac.
You will need to use third-party apps like Record it! and V Recorder if you want to simultaneously record your iPhone’s screen and take pictures with the front camera.
You can usually record sounds from both the internal and external microphones using the built-in screen recorder. The one exception is if you’re using FaceTime or other video calling programs, in which case you can only take screenshots without audio.
