To regain access to your Apple account, you have a few choices.
You can’t access your Apple devices or services, including Apple Music, iCloud, the App Store, and more, if you forget your Apple ID. However, if you lose yours, don’t worry—most of the time, changing your Apple ID password is not too difficult.
1. Reset Your Apple ID on a Trusted Device
Only reliable devices and the internet can access your account when two-factor authentication (2FA) is enabled.
You’ll need your password and the six-digit verification code that is delivered to your phone number or displayed on your other devices when you log in to a new device for the first time. Unless you log out, clear the device, or modify your password, you won’t require that verification code once more.
Using Apple Passkeys to log in is your only other choice; however, this requires an iPad or iPhone that you can trust and is running iOS 17 or later.
You can use any reliable device to reset your iCloud or Apple ID password if you have 2FA enabled.
On an iPhone or iPad
Open the Settings application on your iPad or iPhone. Select Sign-In & Security, [Your Name] > Change Password.
After that, enter the passcode that you used to open your gadget.
After entering a new password in each of the two fields on the Change Password screen, click Change. You can now use this new Apple ID password on every other device you own.
On a Mac
Click [Your Name] after selecting System Settings from the Apple menu in macOS.
Click Change Password next to Password after selecting Sign-In & Security. The admin password for your Mac will need to be entered. After that, select Allow.
Enter your new password in the dialogue box that pops up and repeat it in the Verify area. Click Change after that. When you use your other devices again, they will prompt you to enter the new password.
2. Reset Your Apple ID Password Through the iForgot Website
You can also use Apple’s iForgot page to reset your Apple ID password.
On an iPhone or iPad
To reset your Apple ID password on your iPhone or iPad, use the iForgot website as follows:
1. Visit the iForgot webpage on Apple.
2. Select “Reset Password.”
3. Press the option labelled “Reset My Password.”
4. To authenticate, enter the passcode on your iPhone or iPad.
5. All you have to do is type in your new password again and click Continue.
On a Mac, PC, or Android Device
Using a web browser, navigate to Apple’s iForgot website and select Reset Password. After providing your Apple ID, click Proceed.
The phone number linked to your Apple ID will be partially visible to you (just the last two digits are displayed; the remaining numbers are suppressed). To confirm, type the entire phone number and select Proceed.
On the devices you trust, a dialogue box displays, much like with a 2FA login. The website now displays a list of your Apple devices. Upon seeing the Reset Password message, click or tap Allow.
3. Reset Your Apple ID Password on a New Device
By taking the actions listed below, you can also use a new iPhone or iPad to reset your Apple ID password:
1. During setup, just select Forgot password or don’t have an Apple ID? if you’re just getting your new iPhone or iPad set up. If not, launch the Settings application.
2. After selecting Sign in with your iPhone, select Sign in Manually.
3. Select Forgot password or don’t have an Apple ID? when asked to enter the email address or phone number associated with your Apple ID. After that, select Apple ID or Forgot Password.
4. Enter the phone number or email address connected to your Apple ID. Verify your phone number now.
5. Send code to [Your Number] by tapping. If you have enabled it, enter the 28-character recovery key after entering the verification code you receive, then hit Next.
6. Lastly, enter and validate a fresh Apple ID password.
4. Reset Your Apple ID Password Using Someone Else’s Device
You can use an iPhone or iPad belonging to a friend or family member to reset your Apple ID password using the iForgot website or the Apple Support app if you are unable to access any of your devices.
Request that the owner of the device first download the Apple Support app. Select Reset Password from the Support Tools menu. Click on Help Someone Else now.
After entering the Apple ID for which the password needs to be reset, click Next and follow the on-screen directions until you get the confirmation.
5. Reset Your Apple ID Password Using a Recovery Contact
There is still hope if you are unable to access your trusted phone number or other Apple devices due to being locked out of your Apple ID account. They can assist you in regaining access to your account in a matter of minutes as long as you have established an account recovery contact.
To reach the stage when your recovery contact can help you, follow these steps on your device:
1. Use a web browser to navigate to Apple’s iForgot webpage.
2. After selecting Reset My Password, enter the phone number or email address associated with your Apple ID. Select Help Someone Else if you’re using a loaned device and don’t have access to your own device.
3. When asked to reset your Apple ID password using one of your other Apple devices, select Cannot access your Apple devices.
4. When asked to enter your reliable phone number, select Cannot use this number.
5. Press On the following screen, get assistance right now.
6. It is now necessary for you to get in touch with your recovery contact and get a recovery code.
They must navigate to Settings > [Apple ID Name] > Sign-In & Security > Account Recovery if they are using an iPhone or iPad. Next, click Get Recovery Code after selecting your name under the Account Recovery For header.
If they utilise a Mac, they must navigate to System Settings > [Apple ID Name] > Sign-on & Security > Account Recovery by clicking the Apple logo on the menu bar. Next, select Account Recovery For, click Details next to your name, and then select Get Recovery Code.
It’s doubtful that you’ll be able to access your account again if you don’t have access to the phone number or email address associated with your Apple ID and don’t have a recovery account or contact set up. Regretfully, in these situations, your only choice is to set up a new Apple ID.
